Description

The Neptune Systems DOS QuietDrive is the evolution of one of the most trusted dosing pumps in reef keeping. The original DOS built its reputation on precision, reliability and seamless Apex integration — and the QuietDrive keeps every one of those strengths while adding the two things reefers asked for most: dramatically quieter operation and continuous duty capability.
Important: The DOS QuietDrive requires a Neptune Systems A2 or A3 Series Apex Controller to function. It is not a standalone dosing pump.

QuietDrive technology — up to 400% quieter
The QuietDrive designation refers to a fundamental change in how the motor operates. The DOS QD uses a gearless, direct drive stepper motor — eliminating the gear train that was the primary source of noise in the original DOS. The result is noise reduction of up to 400% at high flow rates (60/125/250 mL/min) and up to 200% at slower speeds (7/12/25 mL/min).
For reefers with tanks in living spaces or bedrooms, the difference is immediately noticeable. The DOS QuietDrive operates at a level that no longer draws attention.
5,000-hour MTBF stepper motor — built to last
The gearless direct drive mechanism isn’t just quieter — it’s more durable. The stepper motor carries a 5,000-hour mean time before failure rating, which Neptune Systems estimates represents up to 12 times the lifespan of a comparable DC motor-driven dosing pump. In a component that runs continuously for years, this difference matters significantly for long-term reliability and total cost of ownership.
Continuous duty modes — a new capability
The original DOS was an interval-based dosing pump. The QuietDrive introduces continuous duty operation at speeds up to 25 mL/min — a mode the original DOS could not run in. This opens up applications that require uninterrupted flow:
For calcium reactor feeding, continuous duty at up to 11.41 gallons per day provides the steady, controlled flow rate that reactors require without interruption or pulsing artifacts.
For automated water changes, continuous mode means water flows out and fresh saltwater flows in smoothly and evenly, rather than in timed pulses. Daily exchanges of up to 12 gallons per day are possible in QuietZone continuous mode, or up to 30 gallons per day in standard interval mode.
Four key applications — one pump handles all of them
Two-part dosing is the most common use — calcium and alkalinity delivered in precisely timed doses throughout the day, keeping parameters stable without daily manual intervention. The Apex Fusion dosing wizard sets up the entire schedule from a single input: enter the daily volume and the time window, and the DOS handles the rest.
Automated water changes require no additional hardware beyond the DOS itself and tubing to your saltwater and drain. Configure the water change task in Apex Fusion and the DOS handles the exchange automatically on your chosen schedule.
Micro dosing — for vodka dosing, Zeovit systems or any application requiring extremely small volumes — is possible down to 0.1 mL per dose, enabled by the precision stepper motor’s fine movement control.
Calcium reactor feeding is now fully supported via continuous duty mode, replacing the need for a separate dedicated feed pump.
1LINK connectivity — no separate power supply
The DOS QuietDrive connects directly to the Neptune EB832 Energy Bar via the included 1LINK cable. This single cable both powers the DOS and establishes its communication link with the Apex Controller — eliminating the separate power supply and freeing up an AC outlet on the EB832 for other equipment.
Sure-fit compression fittings
Leak-proof fittings are critical on a dosing pump — both to prevent liquid escaping and to maintain the air-tight seals required for accurate metering. The DOS QD uses sure-fit compression fittings, a significant upgrade over the dual-barbed fittings common on budget dosing pumps, which can slip, weep or introduce air into the line over time.
Snap-off pump heads for easy maintenance
Replacing the pump head on the DOS QD requires no tools — squeeze and remove. The large-diameter tubing is simple to replace and the entire pump head assembly can be changed in minutes.
Backlit priming buttons
The priming buttons have been updated from plain plastic to backlit with R (right) and L (left) indicators — useful when working inside a dark aquarium stand. They are now water-resistant, preventing damage if pressed with wet hands.
