Description
The Simplicity 800DC proves that serious skimming performance doesn’t require a premium price tag. Designed and tested by reef hobbyists, every component of this skimmer was chosen for one purpose — pulling as much dissolved organic waste out of your water as efficiently as possible, with the least amount of fuss.
DC pump with needle-wheel impeller — more air, finer bubbles
The controllable DC pump at the core of the 800DC draws in more air than comparably priced competitors, feeding it through a needle-wheel impeller that shreds the incoming air into an extraordinarily dense cloud of micro-fine bubbles. More bubbles mean more surface area for dissolved organics, proteins and detritus to bind to — and that means more waste pulled out of the water before it can break down into nitrate and phosphate.
Hybrid cone body — longer contact time, concentrated foam
The skimmer body combines a cylindrical lower section with a cone-shaped upper chamber. As bubbles rise through this hybrid geometry, contact time between the water and the bubble mass increases significantly. The cone shape also concentrates the foam as it climbs, delivering a drier, more nutrient-dense skimmate to the collection cup rather than the diluted, watery output common in simpler body designs.
Three points of control — dial it in precisely
Most skimmers give you one adjustment. The 800DC gives you three — independent control over water level, air intake and pump speed. This combination lets you tune the skimmer precisely to your system’s bioload, feeding schedule and sump water level, rather than settling for an average performance that fits no tank perfectly.
The included controller makes pump speed adjustment simple, with a Feed Mode that temporarily pauses the pump during feeding to prevent overflow from surface agitation. A built-in digital readout displays current pump speed and real-time power consumption at a glance.
Bayonet locking collection cup with drain
The collection cup locks securely onto the skimmer body via a bayonet twist-lock, preventing accidental overflow spills into the sump. A built-in drain port on the cup can be plumbed to a larger waste reservoir — essential for reefers who travel or simply prefer less frequent manual maintenance.
Thumbscrew assembly — cleaning in minutes
The entire skimmer body disassembles without tools. Thumbscrews hold all sections together, meaning a full breakdown and clean takes minutes rather than a frustrating half-hour wrestling with stuck fittings.
