The Red Sea ReefDose 2 is not an adapted industrial pump with aquarium firmware bolted on — it was designed entirely from scratch for the specific demands of reef aquarium dosing. Every component, from the patent-pending dosing heads to the Dynamic Dosing Queue software, was built around one goal: delivering the right amount of the right supplement at the right time, every time, with the least possible effort from the reefer.
Patent-pending single-drop accuracy heads
The dosing heads are the defining feature of the ReefDose. Each head uses a direct-drive planetary gear-motor — a precision mechanism that moves the pump in extremely fine increments, enabling single-drop accuracy across the full dosing range. The result is an accuracy of ±0.05 mL per dose, or an average deviation of just 0.5% over 10 mL. For context, many standard dosing pumps operate at 2–5% deviation — the ReefDose is consistently an order of magnitude more precise.
The heads click on and off without tools or alignment — a simple twist-lock that takes seconds to change for cleaning or tube replacement.
Three dosing speed modes
Most dosing pumps run at a fixed speed. The ReefDose gives you three:
Whisper mode runs at 15 mL/min for near-silent operation — ideal for living room setups or anywhere noise is a concern. Regular mode runs at 30 mL/min for standard daily dosing. Turbo mode hits 45 mL/min when you need to dose quickly — useful for larger daily volumes or after a manual water change that depleted parameters.
Speed is selected independently per head, so one channel can run in Whisper while the other runs in Regular without any conflict.
Dynamic Dosing Queue — smarter than a simple schedule
The ReefDose’s controller doesn’t just follow a timer — it actively manages a coordinated dosing queue across all heads simultaneously. Every head’s dosing program is combined into one unified daily schedule, automatically spaced to prevent two supplements from dosing at exactly the same time and chemically interacting in the tubing or sump.
When something disrupts the schedule — a power outage, a manual feed pause, a maintenance window — the queue doesn’t simply skip the missed doses. It automatically reschedules them within the remaining day to ensure the full daily volume is still delivered. The queue updates itself instantly whenever settings are changed, with no manual recalculation required.
Four smart dosing program types per head
Each head can be configured using one of four preset dosing modes, covering the full range of common reef dosing patterns: single daily dose, evenly distributed 24-hour dosing, customised multi-period schedules, and up to 24 individually programmed doses per day. Switching between modes is handled in the ReefBeat app without needing to re-enter volume or timing data from scratch.
ReefBeat app — wireless control and monitoring
The ReefDose 2 connects to Red Sea’s free ReefBeat app over WiFi, integrating with the broader Red Sea smart ecosystem alongside ReefLED lights, ReefATO and other ReefBeat devices. From the app you can monitor dose logs for up to 30 days, track container volumes, receive missed-dose alerts, set individual heads to food-dosing mode for liquid coral foods, and configure dosing days — running schedules only on selected days of the week if needed.
Automatic chemical separation
The controller automatically builds a delay between successive head activations, ensuring that calcium and alkalinity (or any two reactive supplements) never dose simultaneously into the same water volume. This reduces the risk of localised precipitation in the sump — a known issue with simpler dosers that fire all heads at the same instant.
10-year motor life expectancy
Based on a usage rate of 250 mL/day per head, Red Sea rates the ReefDose motor at a 10-year service life. This is enabled by the direct-drive planetary gear-motor, which eliminates the intermediate gear stages that wear most rapidly in conventional dosing pump designs.
